Research & Development
We always keep up to date on the best option for hair loss, and we love to innovate. We have the financial resources to continue the research and provide our patients always the best treatment available. Dr. Nader Is an international speaker and is often invited to give lectures in hair restoration societies world wide.

There have been tremendous advances in hair transplantation surgery over the last 20 years, from the old-fashioned plugs, then smaller grafts until single-graft transplants became the standard golden rule. Now follicular units allow a much more natural redefinition of the hairline and provide more hair yield and density per transplant. Being density an issue, special protocols are used to achieve maximum placement without compromising hair growth.

Today, one of the most stressing questions is: What is the most modern technique for hair loss? and what is the best treatment for me? The first question has answers that are constantly changing, as techniques are constantly evolving. Even Follicular Unit Hair Transplants techniques are constantly evolving to produce a more natural look and more dense packing hair procedures. Follicular Unit Extraction techniques have been in a constant struggle to achieve a better yield of follicular survival and for scarring to become unnoticeable after a hair transplant procedure.

Below are several research topics on hair loss that we are disclosing, and have general and not specific information. All other material is confidential and will be disclosed when approval and copyright issues are resolved.

There is more information about hair loss in our FAQ page, you are welcome to visit.

Hair multiplication is a technique that varies with each surgeon, as different techniques of dissection and cell handling are being expressed. One must take caution, as these techniques are still experimental and have not yet produced consistent results.

The field of tissue engineering is now evolving. Dermal papilla cells are being stripped of their hair follicle and kept in primitive state, preventing them from differentiating into more mature skin or hair cells. This way, DP have the instructions that dictate how to grow hair, and activating these cells in their new position is still in research. Having this said, dermal pallila cells are a very essential part of hair follicles. They govern formation of hair fiber from epithelial matrix cells. Also, DP cells are believed to possess extraordinary hair induction properties, which is now the main issue. Loosing this condition in vitro makes can be devastating. Enough said.

Not all of the research and development is thanks to hair loss patients from androgenetic alopecia. We wish to thank all of the patients who have unfortunate genetic alterations and disorders who volunteer and accept our investigations to further enhance our treatments. If you have the following conditions, we have some information for you to browse:
  • Disorders of hair morphogenesis.
  • Abnormal hair is evident at birth and persists throughout life.
  • Hypotrichosis with juvenile macular dystrophy
  • Localized autosomal recessive hypotrichosis
  • Disorders of hair cycling
  • Atrichia with papular lesions
  • Vitamin D-resistant rickets
  • Disorders of the hair shaft structure
  • Monilethrix
  • Netherton syndrome
Here at Nader Medical, our commitment is to always have the best innovative procedures, and keep evolving as we have the financial resources to keep doing research on new scalp impregnation therapies and hair multiplication techniques.

Current research has proven to be useful in the following techniques:

  • Donor hair harvesting and processing

  • Preparation of the recipient site

  • Consistent 99% donor hair unit survival rate

  • Improvement in hair density measurement on recipient sites

  • Considerable reduction in scarring after the procedure.

  • Increase in yield of donor hair processing, and therefore better dense packing of the recipient site.

Propecia Side Effects

I have dedicated a page to describe some of the common side effects of Propecia (finasteride) and some discussion from people who have suffered from these side effects. For more information, please read the Propecia Side Effects page.

Hair loss related question

Does stress play a role in male pattern baldness?

We now know that stress can speed up the rate of hair loss, even in non male pattern baldness. For people genetically programmed for hair loss, they have a faster progression of male pattern baldness and even total hair loss of the head, eyebrows and even eyelashes can occur. Some cases are similar to alopecia areata and alopecia universalis. Treatment to remove or alleviate the stress factor will often cause growth of new hair.

Do drugs play a role in male pattern baldness?

Usually, patients who have been taking regular doses of certain medication can begin experiencing temporal or permanent hair loss. These medications are:

• Chemotherapy for cancer

• Amphetamines

• Lithium for depression

• Certain oral contraceptives

• Hypothyroid medication

Why is there a four month waiting period for a hair transplant follicle to start growing?

Transplanting hair temporarily interrupts blood supply and nerve ending regeneration and thus will cause the initial hair to shed. This means that the temporary hairs will usually fall leaving the hair bulb and pluripotential cells inside, which will grow a new hair and resume its cycle normally.

What illnesses can cause hair loss?

Some diseases are not part of the genetic androgenetic alopecia, but can cause hair loss either diffusely or in an androgenetic pattern. These can be:

• Thyroid diseases

• Physical or mental stress or major surgery

• Discontinued use of oral contraceptives

• Several skin diseases

• Hormonal changes or menopause

• Autoimmune disorders

• Some medications for treating high blood pressure, arthritis, cholesterol

• Among others.
